Our House Rules

Character Creation

All PCs, including guest players, roll stats during character creation using the 5th Edition Rules as Written (RAW).

Level Progression

Level ups are driven by narrative progression, not by accumulating experience points (XP)

Healing Mechanic - ‘Seeds of Zivilyn’

In lieu of healing potions, PCs have 'Seeds of Zivilyn'. Each seed has four charges, replenishing at dawn, and is used as a Bonus Action.

A charge heals 1d4 HP. Players decide how many charges to use. Only PCs benefit from the Seeds of Zivilyn; NPCs do not.

Critical Rolls

Critical Hits: Damage is rolled and added to the maximum possible damage allowed by a normal hit.

Critical Misses: Rolling a 1 on an attack roll results in a fumble or botch, leading to consequences beyond a simple miss.

NPCs can also score critical hits & misses.

*Critical Rolls do not apply to Skill Checks*

Skill Challenges

We utilize Skill Challenges, inspired by Matthew Colville's version, as a narrative device for complex tasks with clear success/failure outcomes.

Assisting in a Skill Challenge requires a DC 10 check in the relevant skill. Successful assistance grants a +2 bonus to the skill check result.

Wild Magic

We use an expanded Wild Magic Surge Table

Poisons

We are using a homebrew poisoners kit (by Shylocv) which covers mechanics for gathering and crafting poisons

Dual Wielding

PCs and NPCs can attack with both their primary and secondary weapons (if equipped) during each Attack Action.

Help Action

To use the Help action, the assisting player must be proficient in the relevant skill. A narrative description of how the help is provided is required for each use of this action.

Flexible Skill Checks

At DM’s discretion (and based on narrative justification) a player may be able to roll a skill check with a non-standard attribute and add that new attribute’s modifier (e.g. add Strength modifier for Intimidation if physically roughing up a target)
